Steps for Staining an Adirondack Chair:
Step 1: Prepare for Staining
Ensure that the chair is clean, dry, and dust-free. Place a drop cloth on the floor. To make staining the bases of each leg easier, consider placing the chair on blocks.
Step 2: Open and Stir the Stain
Open the stain can gradually. Stir the stain slowly with a stir stick, avoiding building bubbles and scratching the bottom of the can to mix any settled pigment in.
Step 3: Apply the Stain
Coat half of the length of the bristles with a high-quality synthetic bristle brush soaked in the stain.
Step 4: Keep brushing
Sweep the brush over each board in a sweeping motion.
Step 5: Tip-off the Edges
To tip-off drips as the brush runs out, run it over the edges at a 45-degree angle.
Step 6: Coat the Gaps
Work in gaps before moving on to flat surfaces whenever feasible. Allow drying for 24 hours after priming the chair. If necessary, turn the chair over once it’s dry to coat the underside, avoiding any drips or stains on the completed surface.
